The Supreme Court of Cambodia returned the case of a citizen of Russia, Alexander Trofimov, who is accused of raping a minor, to the Court of Appeal.
As reported by The Phnom Penh Post, the court ruled that insufficient evidence was provided. In particular, in the opinion of the judges, investigators could not prove that the victim was 14 years old the crime took place.
Trofimov was arrested in October 2007 on suspicion of having relationship with 19-year-old minors.
In March 2008 he was sentenced to 13 years, later the sentence was reduced to six years.
Trofimov was not present at the meeting of the Supreme Court. His lawyer said that Russsian was "too sick"
